Maharaj.<\/strong><strong>Shivaji Maharaj was crowned as the Chhatrapati (Emperor) here in 1674.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>The fort remained the administrative headquarters of the Maratha Empire.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>It houses the Samadhi (memorial) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>The Takmak Tok (execution point) and Maha Darwaja (main entrance) are key Pingle, his chief minister.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>The fort is famous for the Battle of Pratapgad (1659), where Shivaji Maharaj defeated the formidable general Afzal Khan, establishing his military reputation.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Served as an important military and administrative post of the Maratha military outpost, controlling the trade routes in the region.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>It witnessed several battles during the Maratha and later Mughal
