Aurangabad

Takht Sri Hazur Sahib

The site is where the tenth and final Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, spent the last 14 months of his life and passed away in 1708.
At this location, Guru Gobind Singh declared the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal Guru for Sikhs, ending the line of personal gurus.
The current gurdwara building was constructed between 1832 and 1837 by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the great Sikh ruler.

The main structure features a golden dome and is made of white marble, with its interior artistically ornamented in a style similar to the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar.
The inner sanctum, known as the Angitha Sahib, is built over the spot where Guru Gobind Singh was cremated in 1708.
The complex houses personal belongings and weapons of Guru Gobind Singh.
All ancient customs practiced at the time of the Guru are still followed, such as the application of a sandalwood tilak on the foreheads of priests and devotees.
